Aftercare & Fitting Guide
Quality 4×4 gear is built to take a beating — but a bit of care after fitting keeps it looking sharp and working hard for years. Quick rundown of what to do, when, and what to watch for.
First 500km after fitting
- Re-torque every bolt at 100km and again at 500km. Suspension components, bullbar mounts, and rockslider brackets settle in the first few hundred kilometres. Re-torque to spec from the fitting instructions.
- Wash off any factory grease or rust-prevention coating with warm soapy water — bullbars and rocksliders ship with a thin protective film.
- Check wheel alignment within 200km of a suspension lift. Lifts shift caster and toe — getting it adjusted early saves your tyres.
- Listen for unusual noises — squeaks, knocks, or rattles in the first week usually mean a bolt needs re-torquing or a bush needs settling.
Routine care
- Wash regularly. Salt air on either side of the Tasman, mud on every farm and bush track — both are murder on steel. Hose down within 24 hours of any beach trip or muddy paddock run.
- Spray protectant on exposed bolts every 6–12 months — a light coat of CRC, Lanotec, or similar stops rust at the threads.
- Inspect mount points twice a year. Look for cracks in welds, deformed bushes, loose hardware. Catch it early, fix it cheap.
- Powdercoat touch-up. Stone chips on bullbars and rocksliders are normal — touch up with matching paint to stop rust spreading.
Suspension-specific
- Greaseable bushes need a pump every 10,000km or 6 months, whichever comes first.
- Shock absorbers should be checked at every WOF / rego inspection — leaks, dents, rattles all = replace.
- If you've fitted heavier-rate springs and you're not running heavier loads, you'll feel it. That's normal.
