NZ LandCruiser Parts and Accessories Guide (2026): 76, 78, 79, 200, 300 Series
Share
The Toyota LandCruiser is the most capable stock 4x4 on the NZ market. From the 76/78/79 Series workhorses running on station tracks in Canterbury, to the 200 and 300 Series family touring rigs heading up the South Island West Coast — the LandCruiser does things no other vehicle can do, and does them for decades without complaint.
But every LandCruiser benefits from the right parts and accessories, and for NZ owners, sorting the genuinely-compatible gear from the "close-enough" imports is a serious task. This guide covers the major series, what fits, what doesn't, and where to buy.
Know your platform
- 76 Series wagon: Five-door wagon. Family / expedition base.
- 78 Series troop carrier: Three-door "troopie". Classic expedition conversion base.
- 79 Series ute: Cab chassis ute. Station / tourer / work ute.
- 200 Series wagon: Full-size luxury 4x4, 2007-2021.
- 300 Series wagon: Full-size, all-new platform from 2022.
The 76/78/79 all share the same chassis and running gear — most suspension, brakes, bullbars (with minor body-fitment differences), and recovery gear cross-fits. The 200 and 300 are completely different platforms.
Bullbars by series
70 Series (76/78/79)
The factory bumper is pressed steel and will take a light knock. For genuine protection in NZ back-country, fit a full-loop steel bar with integrated winch cradle. Expect 90-120kg. Pricing NZD $2,200 - $3,400.
200 Series
Watch the year — 2007-2011, 2012-2015, and 2016-2021 all have different bumpers. 2016+ models have Adaptive Cruise Control radar behind the grille. Pricing NZD $2,400 - $3,800.
300 Series
All-new platform. ADAS radar and camera. Needs a 300-specific bar with engineered radar cutout. GR Sport trim needs a GR Sport-specific bar. Pricing NZD $2,800 - $4,500.

Lift kits by series
70 Series
Coil front (76 has coil rear; 78 and 79 have leaf rear). 50mm lift is the touring default. Budget NZD $2,500 - $4,500 for a matched kit. Browse the lift kit collection.
200 Series
Coil front and rear with AHC (active height control) on some trims. AHC kits require specialised components. Non-AHC kits NZD $2,800 - $4,900.
300 Series
Coil front and rear. AHC on some variants. New platform means limited aftermarket so far — use 300-specific kits only. NZD $3,500 - $5,800.
GVM upgrades in NZ
NZ doesn't use the same "Second Stage Manufacture" framework as Australia, but LVV (Low Volume Vehicle) certification serves a similar function. A certified GVM upgrade in NZ:
- Uses engineered springs, shocks, and (sometimes) brake/axle components.
- Requires LVV certification by an approved NZ Certifier.
- Registers the modification with NZTA.
Pricing in NZ: NZD $4,500 - $8,500 for a Stage 1 GVM including LVV cert.
Rock sliders, snorkels, and recovery gear
- Rock sliders: Chassis-mount preferred for NZ back-country. NZD $1,100 - $2,500 pair.
- Snorkels: Essential for coastal and stream-crossing work. NZD $550 - $1,400 fitted. See the snorkel collection.
- Rated recovery points: Minimum 5000kg WLL. NZD $130 - $290 pair.
- Winches (12,000lb synthetic): NZD $1,500 - $3,800.
Common LandCruiser-in-NZ mistakes
- Mixing series parts. 76 and 79 cross-fit suspension, but NOT body panels or bullbars.
- Buying Australian-market bars without NZ support. Warranty claims on parts imported privately are almost impossible.
- Skipping LVV cert on GVM upgrades. Over-GVM driving voids insurance in NZ too.
- Ignoring salt-air protection. Northland, Taranaki, and the West Coast will eat raw steel alive.
