Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series Bullbar Guide (2022+): ADAS, Radar, and the New Platform
Share
The LandCruiser 300 Series is Toyota's long-awaited replacement for the 200, and it's a serious piece of kit. New 3.3L twin-turbo V6 diesel, new TNGA-F platform, revised transfer case, 10-speed auto, full ADAS suite. It's faster, lighter, and more technologically advanced than the 200 in every direction — which, if you're planning a touring build, comes with new complications.
A factory 300 Series cannot be fitted with a 200 Series bullbar. Full stop. This guide covers what fits the 300, how to preserve ADAS, and what you'll pay landed in Australia.
The 300 is a completely new platform
New TNGA-F ladder frame, wider track, repositioned radar, new front bumper geometry, and a reshaped crumple structure. Nothing about the front end is shared with the 200. Parts marked "200/300 compatible" are either misleading or lying — buy 300-specific.
ADR compliance and ADAS
Every 300 Series comes with Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, AEB, and Lane Keep Assist as standard. Behind the grille sits a 77GHz radar, and the front camera lives behind the windscreen. A bullbar that blocks or misaligns the radar will throw permanent ADAS faults and can disable AEB — a roadworthy fail.
What to look for:
- AS 4876.1-2002 and ADR 69 compliance (airbag-safe).
- Radar-transparent section or a cutout sized specifically for the 300 Series radar.
- Camera clearance — no obstruction of the windscreen camera's field of view.
- Sensor pods for the twelve front and corner sensors.
If the bar doesn't explicitly state ADAS compatibility for the 300, don't buy it.
Bar styles
Single-loop (hoop) bullbar
The mainstream choice for GXL, VX, and Sahara trims. Bonnet protection, aerial tabs, light-bar provision. Steel bars run 95-120kg, alloy 55-75kg.
Hoopless comp bar
Maximum approach angle and recovery access. Popular on hardcore tourers, GR Sport builds, and weight-conscious rigs.
Triple-loop commercial bar
Heavy-duty with grille and headlight loops. Common on fleet/expedition 300s.
Winch compatibility
The 300 has ample room for a 12,000lb winch in most bars. Confirm mounting pattern, control box placement (external preferred), and that rated recovery points (5000kg+ each) are integrated.
Pricing
- Alloy hoop bar (non-GR Sport): $2,400 - $3,200
- Steel hoop bar, winch-ready: $2,700 - $3,600
- Steel comp / hoopless bar: $3,100 - $4,100
- Premium GR Sport-specific bar: $3,500 - $4,800
- Commercial triple-loop: $3,200 - $4,400
Professional fitting: $700 - $1,100 in metro areas. Post-fit ADAS calibration: $150-$250.
GR Sport — separate bar required
The 300 GR Sport has unique front bumper geometry and additional cooling intakes that standard 300 Series bars don't accommodate. Always order to GR Sport spec if that's your trim.
Fitting notes
- Plan 5-6 hours careful DIY.
- Factory bumper comes off in one piece.
- Radar unit transfers to the new bar — every reputable 300 Series bar includes a radar relocation bracket.
- Parking sensor pods plug straight into the factory loom.
- Fog lights and DRLs either relocate or are replaced — check kit contents.
- ADAS self-calibration usually happens after 15-30 minutes of driving.
Three traps for 300 Series owners
- Buying a 200 Series bar. Nothing about the front end cross-fits. Buy 300-specific.
- Ignoring the ADAS spec. A bar that blocks the radar is a roadworthy fail.
- Confusing GR Sport with standard trims. Different bumper, different bar.
